Nate and Kate

Nate was born on the hottest day of the year in a burnt-out farmhouse with no hot water in Wingdale, upstate-NY. He grew up chasing chickens, building tree forts, and playing shortstop. He made rollerblading videos and snowboarded in the winter. At 16 he learned to sing and play guitar with the local church choir. Nate played with friends in several high school rock bands, and began writing songs and traveled the country by station wagon at 18. He released his first album of all-original material, “Generation Why?,” early the following year. He juggles 7 balls with good control and currently teaches and performs part-time as a juggler. Nate has now written over a hundred original songs, and he released 2 1/2 solo albums before “Nate & Kate.”

Kate was raised in central NY singing and playing cello from the age of four. She has performed in numerous orchestras, string ensembles, and choirs. She has performed in some of Italy’s most magnificent cathedrals as well as New York’s Avery Fischer Hall with the Hamilton College Choir. Kate was lead singer for two rock bands before joining forces with Nate.

Nate & Kate met and began playing together in Binghamton, NY in 2005, and self-booked a 3-month tour of the Eastern-US that Fall (’05). They have continued touring, promoting, and writing, and released their debut album, FAME BY FRAME early summer 2007. FAME BY FRAME has garnered strong reviews, regular Central-NY airplay, and was ranked amongst the “top 25 indie CD’s in the first half of 2008” by wildysworld.com. Nate & Kate have been recently featured at the Ithaca Festival, Saratoga Springs’ Tang Museum Summer Concert Series, Buffalo’s Infringement Festival, the Grassroots Festival, and are continually performing the East Coast and New England, and are developing new material for a follow-up record.

I don't know what to say about Nate & Kate. They're folkies for sure. They're also off-the-wall originals. I swear, Nate can play most anything with strings, and a mouth harp, and juggle at the same time. And though Kate's got some sweet harmonies and this incredible ability to make a cello do things it's really not built to do, I suspect she's there, at least in part, to keep Nate somewhere near the front of the room for most of the show at least! When they came down last year, they brought the house down! Please do yourselves a large favor - c'mon out and welcome Nate and Kate back to this, their second appearance at the Fine Arts Forum Friday night!

If you've never caught Nate & Kate's act before, now's your big chance. This is one of the most interesting and original duos in the region. Nate plays well... everything with a string. Kate lays down mellow tones on the cello and provides mellower harmonies. It ain't all mellow, though. There'll be a rockin' good time too and if we're good Nate will do his famous juggling act! The best Friday night out you're gonna get for two bucks, folks. Come on out and see the show!

What can I say about these guys? Whatever I'd say wouldn't do 'em justice. They sing. Nate plays anything he can get his hands on. He sings, plays, and juggles at the same time. And Kate?... Well first, she gets Nate to the shows, and that should be enough. But she also has a voice to die for and plays cello, sometimes with a bow and sometimes she plucks it like a bass! And sometimes she ends up in the middle of all that juggling too! You will not find a more entertaining evening ANYWHERE, guaranteed!

Cost: $2 adults, $1 students, free kids under 12
